Pittsburgh Region Cadillac LaSalle Club

Then two regional clubs joining forces are better than one.

If you missed the Swigart Antique Automobile Museum Tour, you missed a really good time with our friends from the Central PA Region CLC. Not only did we get to see one of the nicest representations of 25+ museum-quality pre-war vehicles, but William Swigart was also a collector of one of the world’s biggest assemblies of automobile insignias and emblems. We also saw toy trains and cars, a Harley Davidson scooter, as well as other auto-related memorabilia.

But that was nothing compared to what we saw outside the museum walls. The pre-season tour, exclusively provided to our joint-regional group, included trips to Swigart museum overflow storage facilities for the less-than-museum quality automobiles and auto-related paraphernalia. It turns out that Huntingdon still has two vintage auto dealerships from back in the day — it was to former Dodge and Packard Dealerships where the Swigart treasure-trove continued.

Inside, we saw dozens of unique and specialty vehicles, floor-to-ceiling boxes filled with automobile literature, as well one entire room chock full of vintage license plates.

It turns out that William Swigart was a little like you and I: he collected just about anything and everything car-related…. As we’ve all said at some point, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

It was nice to see solid representation from the Pittsburgh contingent. We hope that, in the future, others from the Pittsburgh Region General Membership will want to join us in some of our upcoming events. Remember, the June 24(Brookville) and July 7(Hershey) out-of-region events will be attended by fellow members of the Pittsburgh Region. Also, don’t forget our local event on June 16 in Shadyside! Until the next issue— drive smart, drive right, drive Cadillac!
